Testing and Portfolio Reviews with Kendra Westra
Homeschool Resource Center307 S. Parsons Ave.Brandon, 33511
Spring will be here before we know it! Time to start scheduling evaluations. I offer the PIAT, the IOWA, and portfolio reviews. Sibling discounts given for all services.
PIAT Testing
The Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT) is a standardized, nationally norm-referenced achievement test. If you’re looking for a nationally norm-referenced test, I recommend it for younger students K-3 but will administer it to older students as well. It is individually administered by a trained examiner, with assessment completed in the following broad content areas: General Information, Reading Recognition, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, and Spelling (5 subtests). The subtests and composite scores are calculated immediately with derived scores indicating grade level equivalents and percentile ranking. The test is oral in format and almost conversational in tone. It takes 60-90 minutes to administer the test, but the exam is not timed. I recommend the IOWA for students in grades 4-12 due to the more detailed analysis it gives of the student’s strengths and weaknesses. I charge $65 for the PIAT.
IOWA Testing
If you would like to schedule an appointment for the IOWA test, please email me at westrafab5@gmail.com to secure a spot for your child(ren). The testing fee will be $35 per child (with sibling discounts available). You will be responsible to purchase the test, which costs about $25. The testing will take place at the Homeschool Resource Center (HRC), located at 307 S. Parsons Ave. in Brandon, 33511. If you choose NOT to send in your child’s test scores, you will also need to schedule a portfolio review. Discounts are given for those that do a portfolio review along with testing ($25 for the first, $20 for the second, etc).
The test takes two days to complete and will be given:
May 17-18orJune 21st-22nd
READ CAREFULLY. The BJUHomeschool website has become very tricky. They are doing online testing now and constantly steer you toward that. Follow these instructions….After receiving a confirmation email from me, you can order the test(s) online at www.bjupresshomeschool.com (make sure you are on the Homeschool site and not the School site) . At the website, put your cursor on “Shop” near the top and a drop down menu will appear. Go down to “Testing & Products”, then move to and click on “IOWA Assessments”. Scroll down to the UNMARKED section and click on Form E Copyright 2012 next to The IOWA Algebra Aptitude Test (the first section under Shop Now is for their online test). Scroll down to the grade your child is finishing and click on it. Add the test to your cart (it will be $25). When you have finished ordering all the tests you need, click on the cart icon, if you haven’t already set up an account, you will need to set one up; my tester account number is 77943858 . Make sure you order the correct test for your child’s grade. Feel free to email me if you have any trouble.
Portfolio Reviews
Portfolio reviews are available in person or by Zoom and cost $35 ($5 off for each additional sibling…$30, $25, etc).
Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule any type of evaluation.
